William Pegel appointed chairman of Sri Lanka BAT unit

ECONOMYNEXT- William Pegel, a financial expert, was appointed the Chairman Sri Lanka’s cigarette monopoly Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC), the firm said.
Pegel is taking over from Syed Iqbal, who resigned from the board of the British American Tobacco’s (BAT) Sri Lankan unit on August 08.
Pegel was appointed to the CTC board on August 01, prior to which he was at BAT subsidiary Pakistan Tobacco Company as the Area Head of Finance for South Asia.
He was a Finance Director in many BAT markets, including New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Ghana and Bangladesh.
A chartered accountant by training, Pegel has held senior positions in BAT units since 1996, including in Australia and South Africa.
He was a part of the Australasian Finance Leadership Team and the Supply Chain Leadership Team in the past. (Colombo/9 Aug/2019)
