ECONOMYNEXT – Ceyline Holdings, a diversified Sri Lankan maritime business group, plans to get into ship owning with the acquisition of a bulk carrier, Group Director, Business Development Mevan Peiris said.

The company, which recently expanded with the acquisition of Califolink Logistics, a logistic service provider for the automotive industry, aims to spend about 10 million US dollars on buying a ship.

Ceyline wants to work with importers of bulk cargo, Peiris said in an interview with EconomyNext’s sister publication Echelon’s ‘New Establishment 100‘, which lists some of the most influential young business leaders of Sri Lanka.

Being a ship owner will enable other group businesses to benefit by providing crew and maritime services.

Peiris, who became group director of business development in 2018, is steering the expansion of the group whose ventures span from the original ship agency business to crewing and ship management and repair, marine education and ship supplies.

Other maritime businesses include bunker broking, marine surveys, maritime insurance, refrigerated container management and repair, freight forwarding and logistics.
