Sri Lanka Economic Association elects 2020 committee, wants to focus on policy research

ECONOMYNEXT- The Sri Lanka Economic Association (SLEA) has elected its committee for 2020, with senior economist Upananda Vidanapathirana re-elected as the president, a statement said.
Vidanapathirana is a former Central Bank Assistant Governor and has held the top secretarial position in a number of state ministries.
He was elected at the annual general meeting of SLEA, held at December 18, 2019 at Colombo.
“The SLEA would focus on carrying out research and other policy oriented activities during the year 2020 to make an impact on policy makers,” said Vidhanapathirana after being elected as the new president.
Over the past year, SLEA had conducted a series of policy oriented seminars and the successful annual sessions generating a policy dialog on the theme of “Impact of Globalization on Sri Lanka Economy”.
Rev. W. Wimalarathana, Prof.Sirimala Abeyratne, Chandrasena Maliyadda, Sarath Rajapathirana, Lloyd Fernando, Lochana Gunaratne, H. D. Karunaratne, Raja Korale, Malraj B. Kiriella, Nihan Rodrigo, Udith Jayasinghe, B. L. J. Saliya Balasuriya were re-elected as Vice Presidents of SLEA.
Maringa Sumanadasa was re-elected as General Secretary while Nuwan Medonza was elected as Treasurer.
Sarath Vidanagama, M. Ganeshamoorthy, Menuka Udugama, Ruwan Jayathilake, P. T. Sirisena, Indunil Dayaratne, Selvy Sirikanathan, P. S. Lalinda Sugathadasa, Prasad Serasinghe, Faheema Saheed, Suranga Silva, Seetha Bandara, Tikiri Herath and Ravin De Alwis were the other council members elected.
SLEA is the professional body of Sri Lankan Economists set up in 1985 and incorporated in 2011 by an Act of Parliament. The SLEA is part of the International Economic Association and has over 850 members at present.
