Sri Lanka Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy honoured as ‘Deshamanya’

ECONOMYNEXT- Sri Lanka President Maithripala Sirisena conferred the “Deshamanya” title on Central Bank Governor Indrajit Coomaraswamy, a statement said.
President conferred this honor on August 19 at BMICH at the ‘National Honours’ ceremony, a central bank statement said.
‘Deshamanya’ is a civilian honor awarded by the government of Sri Lanka, second only to ‘Sri Lankabhimanya’.
Coomaraswamy was trained in economics at the University of Cambridge and University of Sussex.
Following an initial career at Sri Lanka’s central bank and the Treasury, Coomaraswamy joined the Commonwealth Secretariat, rising to hold the position of Director of Economic Affairs.
He was appointed governor of the central bank in 2016. (Colombo/ August 21/ 2019)
